Freedom can mean different things to different people. For some, it is the freedom to speak their mind and live life on their own terms, while for others, it is the courage to follow their dreams and create their own path. This Independence Day, Sun Neo artists Aarti Birajdar and Suraj Pratap Singh share their personal thoughts on freedom, the people who gave them the confidence to chase their dreams, and the things about India that make them feel truly proud.
Suraj Pratap Singh, who plays Prem in Divya Prem Pyaar Aur Rahasya Ki Kahani, said, “For me, freedom is having the courage to choose roles, dreams and challenges that excite me, rather than simply following what is expected of me. That freedom to explore is what keeps me growing. I have always been fortunate to have my mother, Rama Singh, by my side, whose belief in me has given me the confidence to follow my own path and chase the things I truly want. When I think about what makes me proud to be an Indian, our spiritual heritage immediately comes to mind. Concepts like spiritualism, the seven chakras, prayer and even manifestation have been deeply rooted in our culture for centuries. It makes me incredibly proud that so much of the wisdom the world is discovering today has been a part of India’s traditions and way of life for generations.”
Aarti Birajdar who plays the chactaer of Vaidehi in Thodi Si Umeed Thoda Sa Aasman, shared, “For me, the biggest freedom is freedom of expression being able to share your thoughts and opinions and having them respected. I also feel freedom is about travelling, moving around and living life on your own terms, without the pressure of social norms or traditions. It is about having the freedom to be yourself, whether you are a man or a woman, and live life according to your own choices. For me, Independence Day is a reminder of our responsibilities and of the sacrifices made by so many people to give us our independence. It is a day to remember and respect them and think about what more we can do for our country.”
When asked about one thing about India that always makes you feel proud, She added, “The thing I love most about India is its culture and heritage. No matter where I go in the world, I feel there is nothing quite like India. We have so many languages, states, cultures, traditions and different kinds of food. The diversity and versatility we have are truly special. For me, that is one of the most beautiful and important things about India.”
