Iveta Radičová said India’s democratic stability and economic strength make it an ideal mediator in global conflicts.

Former Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radičová, Slovakia’s first woman Prime Minister, spoke to a youth audience in Mumbai about India’s potential as a global mediator. In a candid exchange with Rishabh Shah on I.I.M.U.N.’s Global Perspective Series, Radičová emphasised India’s unique strengths. She said these strengths position India to negotiate with all sides in conflicts.
“First, you are a democratic country, so it is acceptable for all those who are involved in war today. Second, you have shown real potential for economic growth in comparison with countries in the world that are in total economic crisis. Third, you have a stable situation in the country. And fourth, you are not fighting for fossil sources around the world. So your position is like not directly involved in the quotation person who can really negotiate with all sides of the conflict.
The meeting of your prime minister with Trump was the first signal, and I hope he will continue, and then you will be more visible. If you are more involved in overall geopolitical changes which are now going on, then you can be a really strong geopolitical player.” Radičová says these qualities – democracy, growth, stability and neutrality – could make India “well placed to emerge as a respected and professional mediator” in current world situation.
